Have You Ever Secretly Wanted to be Merlin, Gandalf or Harry Potter?
Here’s your chance! Add some magic to your fantasies with my latest software creation: Mystery Letter Writer, an easy to use translator tool. You can be spitting out mysterious letters as if from Galadriel or Morgan La Fay in just a matter of minutes…
Dear fantasy lover,
Not so long ago, I set out to create a book of secrets for dragon hunters. My oldest sons, age 7 and 9, are totally fixated on anything dragon related. They read any book around, watch dragon invested movies and in their own little world they have decided that once they’ve grown up, they want to be the best dragon hunters around…
Dream on?
Sure. And enjoy it while you still can!
I admit they have inherited a love of the mysterious and magical realms from me. My all-time favorite book is “Lord of the Rings” and in the days I had no kids and plenty of time, every once in a while I’d have my private Tolkien weekend. What I’d do is get three days worth of junk meals, crips, cookies and more. Then I’d draw the curtains, unplug the phone and go into a fantasy retreat. Reading one book a day…
If you love Tolkien too, and if you can afford the time, I totally recommend doing this every now and then. You are so totally soaked with the ring tales, that you become part of them at night. Many a times I have been Arwen and able to kiss my hero Aragorn - and frankly, my version was even better than Viggo Mortensen…
Creating the Secret Book of Dragons…
Those times will return hopefully not too long from now. In the mean time I can still endulge in fantasy together with my sons. So as I said earlier, I wanted to create a secret book for dragon hunters. And to make it as secret as possible, each word inside the book had to be in a mysterious language.

The book has become great - even though I say so myself. It has lots of different ingredients, varying from coloring pages to snippets of Beowulf and the music score for ‘Puff the Magic Dragon’. My only problem was writing the secret language…
I had found a great resource for free fantasy fonts (www.fontgarden.net) and downloading and installing them wasn’t a problem. Once a font is installed, any application which can write text can use them. So in my text editor I started to retype some of the dragony quotes and passages I already collected. But here’s the thing: I type 10 fingers blind and as I type I check the screen every now and then for typos. Only, not having a clue what the letters stood for, it was impossible to make sense out of what I had typed!
I desperately needed a tool in which I could type the text in regular English (or rather Dutch) and only after it was finished have it transform to my secret Dragon glyphs. Being probably the most fanatical user of Instant Software Builder around, making this tool myself was actually a breeze. And after I showed my boys what it did, they were not only raving, they were demanding more!
‘Mummy, can’t you also do a secret language for wizards, so we write a letter to Dumbledore and ask if he will let us come to Hogwarts?’
You only have to look into those exciting faces once to have your heart melt, your knees wobble and their wish becoming your command…
So I set out to find a couple more free fonts and today I can proudly present you with…
